Two Cancún-Area Heavyweights
Moon Palace Cancun and Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres are two of the most-booked properties for destination weddings in the Cancún region — both are large all-inclusives with strong wedding programs and deep South Asian wedding experience. We've placed couples at both, and the question we hear most often is: "What's the actual difference?"
Here's the honest, side-by-side breakdown.

1. Location and Setting
Moon Palace Cancun sits at the south end of Cancún's hotel zone, on a peninsula between the Nichupté Lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. You're on the established Cancún strip — close to nightlife, restaurants outside the resort, and dozens of other properties. The energy is "everything happening, all at once."
Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres is 20 km north of Cancún proper, in the Costa Mujeres area — a newer, less developed coastline with fewer resorts. The vibe is calmer, the beach feels more pristine, and you're more "in the resort" with less external infrastructure. The Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre is on-site.
Edge: Moon Palace if you want to feel "in Cancún." Grand Palladium if you want to retreat from it.
2. Beach and Pools
Moon Palace has roughly 1.5 km of beachfront across two sections (Sunrise, Nizuc, The Grand) with calm water protected by a sea wall. Multiple infinity pools, a flowrider wave-pool, and a lazy river. Strong family programming.
Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres has a wider, less developed white-sand beach with the open Caribbean (still calm but more natural). Pools are spread across the family and adult sections. The Family Selection program adds private kids' clubs and dedicated pools for families.
Edge: Moon Palace for water-park amenities. Grand Palladium for a less-crowded, more natural beach.
3. Wedding Venues
Moon Palace Cancun has 8+ official ceremony venues — beach gazebos, garden settings, private terraces, an indoor chapel, and oceanfront platforms. The variety is unusual for a single property; you can do welcome dinner at one venue, ceremony at another, reception at a third without leaving the resort. Particularly strong for multi-day Indian/South Asian weddings.
Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres has 6+ ceremony venues including beachfront, pool deck, garden, and an oceanfront cliff site. Slightly fewer total options but each venue is well-designed and the resort's coordination team is very experienced.
Edge: Moon Palace, especially for couples who want every event at a different venue.
4. Wedding Packages
Both resorts offer complimentary base packages with qualifying group room blocks (5+ rooms × 3+ nights).
Moon Palace packages tend to include more premium add-ons in their tiers — open bar at upgraded levels, more decor flexibility, and broader vendor latitude (lower outside-vendor fees). Premium packages run $15,000–45,000 USD for 50 guests.
Grand Palladium packages are slightly more affordable at the upgraded tier ($2,800–10,000 USD), with strong base inclusions but stricter outside-vendor policies. Family Selection adds dedicated wedding-day amenities for guests with kids.
Edge: Moon Palace if budget allows premium tier. Grand Palladium for upgraded-tier value.
5. Food and Dining
Moon Palace has 16+ restaurants across the property — Italian, Asian, Mexican, steakhouse, French, sports bar, buffets. Sheer variety. Standouts are Bambú (Asian) and Caribeño (Caribbean fusion).
Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres has roughly 9 restaurants including Italian, Mexican, Asian, steakhouse, and Mediterranean. Smaller selection but each is well-executed. The buffets are notably better than the Cancún hotel zone average.
Edge: Moon Palace for variety. Grand Palladium for buffet quality.
6. South Asian Wedding Experience
Both resorts host frequent South Asian destination weddings and have on-staff coordinators who specialize in multi-day cultural events.
Moon Palace has handled some of the largest SA weddings in the Cancún region (200+ guests). On-site tandoor capability, vegetarian/Jain menu development, and partnerships with DreamWed-trusted decorators based in Cancún. Multiple ceremony venues mean Mehndi, Sangeet, Baraat, ceremony, and reception can all happen on-property without compromise.
Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres is also well-equipped for SA weddings, with a dedicated coordinator and tandoor access. The smaller scale makes it feel more intimate for 80–150-guest SA weddings; tighter than Moon Palace for groups above 150.
Edge: Moon Palace for very large SA weddings (150+); Grand Palladium for the 80–150 range with a more intimate feel.
7. Family-Friendliness
Both are family-friendly. Moon Palace has the on-site water park (Wired) and FlowRider, which kids love. Grand Palladium's Family Selection program is the gold standard for family-focused all-inclusives — dedicated kids' pools, in-room amenities for children, and adult-supervised teen programs.
Edge: Grand Palladium for couples with many guest families. Moon Palace for older kids/teens who want the water-park draw.
8. Adults-Only Options
Moon Palace doesn't have an adults-only section, but its sister property Le Blanc Spa Resort Cancún (same parent, Palace Resorts) is the premium adults-only option about 20 minutes south. Some couples blend Moon Palace for the wedding events and Le Blanc for the couple's stay.
Grand Palladium has adults-only sections within the main resort (Family Selection Junior Suite Tropical View has alternatives for adults). It's the simpler "one resort, multiple sections" model.
Edge: Grand Palladium if you want adults-only and family options on the same property. Moon Palace + Le Blanc if you don't mind splitting.
How to Decide
Pick Moon Palace Cancun if: - You're planning a large wedding (100+ guests) - You want maximum venue variety across multi-day events - South Asian wedding with heavy event count and diverse menu - Older kids/teens in your guest list (water-park appeal) - Want to be in the Cancún hotel zone with other things to do
Pick Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres if: - 60–120 guest range and you want a more intimate property feel - Many guests have young children (Family Selection) - You want a quieter setting, away from the main Cancún strip - Beach quality matters more than venue variety - You're looking for slightly better value at the upgraded-package tier
What DreamWed Recommends
We've placed couples at both and the answer genuinely depends on your guest mix and event count. For 200-guest South Asian weddings, we lean Moon Palace nine times out of ten. For 100-guest Western or fusion weddings with a high family-with-kids ratio, we lean Grand Palladium. Both are excellent properties and both have wedding teams we trust.
