South Asian Multi-Day

Mehndi to Sangeet to ceremony to reception. Four days, three resorts on our shortlist, one team handling every moving piece.

About South Asian Multi-Day Weddings

A South Asian destination wedding isn't one event. It's a four-day program that has to feel like a single continuous experience for the guest list — every meal, every venue, every transition handled in sequence. The Mehndi can't run late and push the Sangeet into the next morning. The Anand Karaj or the Saat Phere has to land at the right time of day for the photos and the ritual. The reception has to feel different from the Sangeet so the week doesn't blur. Roughly 70% of the weddings DreamWed places are South Asian — a mix of Sikh Anand Karaj, Hindu Vedic, and increasingly interfaith Sikh-Hindu and Hindu-Catholic combinations. The resort shortlist for SA weddings is small and stable: Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres, Moon Palace Cancun, Moon Palace The Grand, Hard Rock Punta Cana, Hard Rock Riviera Maya, AVA Resort Cancun, Hyatt Ziva Cancun, and Dreams Sapphire. Every resort on that list has executed multiple SA programs — full Mandap setups, vegetarian and Jain catering, dhol players, granthis, pundits, the works. This page is the umbrella view. If you're specifically planning a Sikh or Hindu wedding, the Sikh or Hindu pages drill deeper into ceremony specifics. If you're planning interfaith, the interfaith page covers the dual-officiant logistics. Most couples land here first.

What's Distinct

Scale and pacing. SA weddings move 100–250+ guests through 4 days of programming, with a different vibe and venue for each event. The logistical lift is closer to running a small festival than a single-day Western wedding. Resort-side experience matters more here than for any other ceremony category.

Key Events

  • Welcome / Arrival Day

Arrival check-in, welcome drinks, sometimes a casual welcome dinner. No ceremony — just a soft landing for the guest list before the program begins.

  • Haldi & Mehndi

Day 1 of programming. Haldi (Hindu, often morning), Mehndi (afternoon, mixed). Smaller, family-led, music and food. The week starts here.

  • Sangeet

Evening before the ceremony. Choreographed performances, full guest list, dhol welcome, dinner. The most photographed pre-event.

  • Religious Ceremony

Anand Karaj (Sikh), Saat Phere (Hindu), or the combined ceremony program for interfaith couples. Timed to muhurat or family preference.

  • Reception

The evening capstone — dinner, dancing, formal program, full bar. Distinct in vibe and venue from the Sangeet to give the week a closing crescendo.

  • Farewell Brunch

Optional day-after gathering before guests depart. Casual, no program — closure for the family before everyone scatters.

Frequently Asked

Planning a south asian multi-day destination wedding

Why do you keep recommending the same eight resorts? What about everywhere else?

Because at those eight properties, the wedding-program teams know what a Mandap rehearsal needs, how a langar is served, what a dhol player needs for sound, and how to feed 150 guests fully vegetarian without it being an afterthought. At a property without that track record, you're doing the education on top of the planning. We've made the call that the planning is enough work without that.

What's the difference between this page and the Sikh or Hindu pages?

This page covers the multi-day SA wedding format — Mehndi through reception — at the umbrella level. The Sikh and Hindu pages drill into the religious specifics: Anand Karaj protocols, Saat Phere staging, pundit and granthi coordination. Most couples read this page first to understand the format, then go deeper on whichever ceremony type fits their family.

How big do destination SA weddings typically get?

We've placed weddings from 75 guests to 300+. The 100–200 guest range is the most common. Above 200, the resort shortlist narrows to Moon Palace The Grand, Hard Rock Cancun, Hard Rock Punta Cana, and Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres — those have the venue scale and room inventory.

Can we do a Sikh ceremony for one half of the family and a Hindu ceremony for the other?

Yes — that's an interfaith program. We run dedicated interfaith weddings (often Sikh-Hindu or Hindu-Catholic). The interfaith page covers the dual-ceremony logistics: officiant coordination, venue sequencing, family protocol balancing.

What's the typical timeline from sign-up to wedding day?

10–14 months is the planning window most SA couples use. Faster is possible (we've done 6 months) but room blocks at the strongest properties book ahead, and prime dates (December–February) frequently sell out 12+ months in advance. We start by confirming dates and the resort shortlist before anything else.
